Today we share with you a positional game to train the successive overcoming of defensive lines, as we saw in the analysis of RB Leipzig. Let's see the video of the task first and discuss the most important aspects later.
We can see that we propose a 4v4+3 positional game where the attacking players play outside, and the defenders play inside the box. We want to clarify one thing: when we say that the attackers play 'outside' the box, it is a way to say that they stay in width and depth, but they still have to play inside the space as we must try to propose naturalized tasks for the player to experiment a more realistic environment. The defending team will have freedom of movement, always playing inside the space, and playing with a 2.2 structure.
The objective of this drill is to bring the ball from one neutral player to the other (the deepest), and all the restarts of the game will be from one of them. The only rule that we impose is that the drill takes place with an active transition, which means that when the defenders recover the ball they will move to the 'outside' parts of the pitch and the attackers will start defending inside in a 2.2 structure.
We can see that this drilll, as we present it, only requires breaking two pressure lines, but this is an aspect that us, as coaches and depending on our numbers at training, can easily modify by introducing more players in each team and making more lines in the defender's team, as well as we can use different structures as a function of our needs, our resources, and the team we play in the weekedn.
